Reliable Titanium - Application of Titanium Alloy in the Petrochemical Industry

Since its discovery, titanium has always been the most widely used in the chemical industry. In the past 12 years, the domestic chemical industry has consumed over 15000 tons of titanium annually.

Titanium Reliable 001: Titanium · Higher Strength, Stronger Workability

Don't underestimate the all titanium alloy drill rod, this one.

TA's specific strength is 3.5 times that of stainless steel, 1.3 times that of aluminum alloy, and 1.6 times that of magnesium alloy. With the same weight, it can withstand greater impacts and pressures.

TA's tensile strength is 1.5-2 times that of other alloy partners, making it safer and more durable when drilling underground. It is particularly suitable for drilling operations in complex well conditions such as ultra deep and short radius wells in the Northwest Oilfield.

In recent years, in order to improve crude oil recovery rate, reduce oil and gas field development costs, and extend the development life of oil and gas fields, there have been more and more complex structured wells, such as large displacement wells, short radius wells, and old wells with window side drilling horizontal wells. Conventional drill pipes encounter some difficult problems in the application of these complex structured wells. In ultra short radius horizontal wells, the wellbore curvature is very small (<18m), which causes significant alternating stress on conventional drill pipes. Fatigue fracture of drill pipes caused by alternating stress often occurs, causing significant losses to the oilfield. To solve these problems, foreign countries have started to develop new materials, such as titanium alloy drill rods, aluminum alloy drill rods, composite drill rods, etc., to replace conventional drill rods.

The laboratory has confirmed that when the cyclic stress is between 30000psi-40000psi, the fatigue life of titanium is 10 times that of ordinary steel. The elastic coefficient of titanium alloy pipes is about 16.5msi, which is better than that of steel drill pipes and more suitable for high curvature wellbore sections. At present, titanium alloy drill rods with good economic efficiency have been produced. The material is Ti-6Al-4V, and the pipe body is formed by upsetting at both ends and welding tool joints at both ends. The size of the titanium pipe body meets the API standard, and the length range is within the range of 2 or 3 specified in the API standard. To reduce manufacturing costs, the tool joints are made of steel, and the joint threads are worn in through upper and lower buckles. The outer diameter of the joint is welded with wear-resistant tape. Titanium alloy drill rods are also used in ultra deep wells and large displacement wells. Due to the low density of titanium alloy, it can reduce the hook load by 30% and torque by 30-40%, significantly improving the tension margin and safety factor of drilling tools, and enhancing the ability to handle complex accidents.

In daily environments, the service life of titanium alloy drill rods is 10 times that of conventional steel drill rods of the same specification; In corrosive environments, it is 100 times higher than conventional steel drill pipes.

In addition to drill pipes, offshore oil platform pillars, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, etc., are widely used in the fields of oil extraction and refining.

For example, the North Sea oilfield drilling platform in the United States uses 100 titanium heat exchangers; The Heidrum project in Norway used the world's first titanium high-pressure vertical shaft.

Titanium Reliable 002: Titanium · More Corrosion Resistant, Longer Service Life

The corrosion of structural components caused by biological pollution on offshore oil extraction platforms is quite severe. Traditional metal manufacturing equipment often becomes "half dead"

However, the surface of titanium has a naturally formed, dense, inert, rust resistant, and corrosion-resistant oxide film that can easily resist corrosion from seawater, sulfuric acid, and petrochemical products without the need for additional anti-corrosion treatment.

Titanium alloy components can help oil drilling enter deeper water bodies and oil wells, including higher temperatures and production environments with severe corrosion (i.e., high salinity).

With titanium, drilling platforms only focus on exploration and are not afraid of anything!

Most of China's natural gas resources are sulfur-containing gas fields, such as the Tarim Basin in Xinjiang and the Sichuan Basin, which are high sulfur-containing gas fields. The anti-corrosion and long-term service under high temperature and high pressure conditions of pipes in high H2S2 and C2O2 oil and gas fields are difficult problems in oil and gas development. Currently, selecting high-quality corrosion-resistant materials as pipes has become the dominant trend. Titanium alloy, with its excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, is applied in high sulfur environments, especially under harsh working conditions with high Cl and H2S content. Generally, stainless steel and even nickel based alloys undergo corrosion.

Titanium Reliable 003: Titanium · Lighter and More Flexible Operation

Although titanium alloy rods are more powerful than steel rods

However, titanium alloy rods are even lighter, with a weight of almost half that of steel in the same volume

Because the titanium rod is lighter, the drilling torque is reduced by nearly 50%, and the corresponding load of the top drive on the ground is smaller (PS: smaller force, deeper and more stable drilling), making the equipment less prone to damage.

So, titanium rods are strong and lighter, which can save more effort, fuel, and equipment.

The titanium alloy pole, when used, is simply

One capital for ten thousand profits, instantly killing the two brothers of steel

Chemical titanium, titanium is reliable!
